BORACAY

I PHIL so much FUN in BORACAY....

Search for the best beaches in the world and BORACAY is always included on top of the list. And here is the latest,
Travel and Leisure Magazine chose BORACAY ISLAND as 2012 WORLD'S BEST ISLAND. Located in Malay, Aklan, Western Visayas, PHILIPPINES - Boracay is just seven kilometers long and less than a kilometer wide at its narrowest point - a postcard-sized tropical paradise.

HOW TO REACH THE ISLAND? ....

It was October 19, 2012 when I first explore Boracay Island. I reached Caticlan Airport via Cebu Pacific from Mactan International Airport, Cebu. More or less it cost me Php1,500.00 to book a ticket plus an additional of Php200.00 as terminal fee at the airport. From Manila you can also fly with PAL Express, Cebu Pacific or SEAIR. Arrival would be either in Caticlan Airport directly which is better or via Kalibo Airport which will add 2 hours bus ride going to Caticlan Jetti Port.

From Caticlan Airport, there will be an assistance desk for tourist so you just need to register and pay Php150.00 which includes tricycle, environmental fee and boat fee going to Boracay. There will be an additional Php100.00 for the Terminal Fee at Jetti Port. It takes 10-15 minutes to travel by boat from Caticlan to the Island. Upon reaching the terminal of the Island, you can ride tricycle for only Php25.00 going to Station 1, 2 or 3 and I decided to go to D'MALL which is located at Station 2. Then I start exploring Hotels for me to stay with and luckily I found Bora Sky Hotel near D'MALL and freshen up myself for my first day in my dream island in the Philippines.

WHERE DID WE STAY?.....

The following day my travel buddies from Manila arrived, Jerry and Ate Rose and we decided to stay in Beach Front Hotel for us to conveniently enjoy the scenery of the beach and we found out La Reserve Hotel which offers a unique combination of European first-class standard amenities within native motifs. Having 16 individually detached bungalows in a French inspired interior. We were able to stay in La'Tour, a family suites room which is good for 4 person. It's really nice hotel for relaxation and promotes privacy and guaranteed security, the place where you can find serenity and peach of mind and it is very accessible fronting the beach with easy access to night life, markets, boutiques and Island Activities.

I PHIL SO MUCH FUN WITH THESE ACTIVITIES....

The very first thing that you can do in BORACAY is of course SWIMMING AND SUNSET WATCHING. Who would not be tempted to swim in one of the best beaches in the world?

Next thing would be WALKING in a white powdery sand from station 1 to 3 and don't forget to visit the GROTTO OF BLESSED VIRGIN MARY in Station 1.  While walking you can also observe sand castles which are beautifully made by natives so be ready always with your camera.

You can also do SHOPPING in D'MALL so that you can buy some stuff needed for your pictorial. This is what i did during my first day.  The next and following days was then need to be plan so we came up booking some activities from one of the HAWKERS near Astoria plaza in station 1. You can easily find them as they are situated anywhere on the beach and annoying sometimes. They will ask you to book activities throughout the beach path.

So we then tried ZIPLINE IN FAIRWAYS AND BLUEWATER. It was the first, the longest and the fastest Zipline in Boracay. You can also try Zorbing after the zipline.

We then tried ATV & BUGGY CAR RENTAL so we register, sign the waiver, listen to the briefing, pay the fees, test drive and here we go!!!!You have the option to stop at Aviary where certain entrance fee will be ask or go directly to Tanawin View Point - it is one of the highest point in Boracay where you can have 360 degree view of the entire Island and the property of Fairways and Bluewater which I luckily got some video.

For us to relax, we didn't missed to try BEACH MASSAGE. Day 4 is another day we reserved for water activities. PARASAILING? hmm it was only offered Php700 per person the other day but surprisingly it was already Php2,500.00 per person today. So this would be one thing that you need to know that prices would vary from Low Season ( June to September ), High Season ( October to May ) and Super Peak Season ( December 18 - January 11 - Christmas and New Year, February 7-17- Valentines Day and March 22 to April 1 - Holy Week ). It's good to hear that the rate of HELMET DIVING/REEF WALKING and BANANA BOAT RIDING did not increase yet during this day but the following day, they will so we didn't miss the chance of availing those activities.

One of the MUST THING TO DO in Boracay is have some TATTOO, it could be Henna or Permanent. Tattoo artists are everywhere in the island who are ready to show their tattoo designs portfolio to any prospect.

HUNGRY? DON'T WORRY "EATS MORE FUN IN BORACAY"...

There are amazing variety of Restaurants in Boracay where you can choose to eat which is surely serve the best food you pleasure to eat. There are many people from other countries who have fallen in love with the place and they opened restaurants feauturing cuisine from their home countries, many of them specially importing ingredients. From open air seafood barbeques to fine dining, Boracay really has it all.

Don't leave the island without trying the Greek Cuisine of Boracay - CYMA Restaurant which is located in D'MALL. Prepare yourself for the "OPPA" while serving their Flaming Saganaki (Cheese) Appetizer. We also tried Greek Salad,  Chicken Gyros, Roka Pasta and Pork Tenderloin. So far delicious, better try it!

One of the best restaurants I have tried is OLE Spanish Restaurant known for Tapas (Appetizer) and Paella. It is also located in D'MALL where sexy girls are serving the food, so far they were friendly. And wow, they served huge portion huh, super busog!. We've ordered Espaguetis de OLE, Cuban Sandwich, Ensalada de Ole, Pollo Al Ajillo (Garlic Chicken) and Tortilla Paisana. "Take home ang uban kay di na makaya, haha!"

While doing your shopping in D'MALL you will also notice many people who are waiting outside the store, are they crazy? haha...Ohh I see it's CRAZY CREPES - so far tried mango caramel, so yummy!

One thing you should not miss when visiting Boracay is Jonah's Fruit Shake. I ordered Choco Banana Fruit Shake but all of the sudden, it was gone with the wind! haha...Yup it was very delicious which made me to have another one again so I tried the Mango Banana Fruit Shake and yes both of them were so yummy!

We also tried eating in Astoria Plaza - they are serving lunch and dinner Buffet for only Php450.00, La Reserve for our breakfast, of course it's free but they have limited menu for breakfast so I've been eating corned-beef,egg,rice, banana, coffee and orange juice for couple of days that we stayed in this Hotel, that's the only menu for Filipino. They also have continental or french breakfast, The Sand Bar for our light dinner, Pizza Hut, Starbucks and Coffeeworks (wow CDO's homegrown has already branch in Boracay, so far I've also noticed one in North Edsa)

SOMETHING'S MISSING TO DO IN BORACAY?

Of course party people will not miss to experience the NIGHTLIFE in BORACAY. The options are endless depending on how you want to spend the sultry night in this beautiful island.By 6:00pm, restaurants and bars starting to set up their tables for dinner and party. There are numerous bars and restaurants to choose from station 1 to 3. Party all night, So what we got drunk at....

CLUB PARAW - So far nice crowd, they have 2 dance floors. the lower part has sandy surface and the upper area has wooden surface. Nice mixing of MUSIC, from techno, hiphop, jazz, new hitz to house music - party ALL night - good job DJ! We only ordered 1 bottle of baileys and here we go VIP treatment and got a seat for us, thank you waiters. Overall -  BEST PARTY!

GUILLY'S ISLAND- .They have ample setting and dance floor located in station 1. We stayed here for a while but later on got bored and move to CLUB PARAW.

COCOMANGAS  SHOOTER BAR - . We also stayed here a bit of our time but observed some hookers  dancing on the floor as if they owned the place, Lol! we moved again to CLUB PARAW haha!

PLAZA ASTORIA - - We had our dinner buffet here for free, Thanks to Jaymee of Club Astoria. They have live band and fire dancers. I jammed with the band so far so good.

THE SAND BAR - So far they have the best fire dancers in the island during our visit in this island. We had our light dinner here while enjoying the performance of fire dancers, 2 gays, 2 guys and 2 girls. We had some picture taking with the performers as they will do table hopping for picture taking and giving them tip after.

EPIC BAR -  During day time they are just a restaurant but during the night they transform into a classy discotheque with a very good sound system but dance floor is not as big as Club Paraw, Guilly's Island, Cocomangas and Summer Place. We just came here to chill out, got some drinks, baileys, boracay rhum and sisha - got some apple flavor.

We also checked SUMMER PLACE, JUICE BAR, BOMBOM BAR, and other clubs in station 2 and 3 but my travel buddies don't like the place.

I PHIL TO GO AGAIN IN THIS ISLAND BECAUSE I FEEL SO MUCH FUN IN BORACAY!!!!

HOLY WEEK IN CAMOTES ISLAND

GETTING TO KNOW CAMOTES ISLAND

One popular story says that centuries ago when Spaniards first arrived, they encountered some native islanders farming whom they asked about the island's name. The natives thought they were asking them what they were putting their baskets. They replied, "Camotes." Thereafter the islands were called the "Camotes Islands."

Camotes Island is composed of 4 municipalities namely, Poro, Tudela, San Francisco and Pilar.

There are regular fast ferry trips from Cebu city to Poro, Camotes twice daily as well as local pump boats across to Danao. There is also light aircraft capable airfield at San Francisco for receiving charter flight from Cebu, and elsewhere. Camotes islands are part of Danao city, province of Cebu.

HOW WE GET IN THERE?

It was hot sunny day of April  4, 2012 , when I and my friends (Flanka, Kim, Cheza and Cha2x ) decided to spend our holy week in Camotes Island. We decided to meet at UV main campus, Colon St., Cebu City as this would be convenient for us. From Colon, we just rode a jeep (1K) going to WHITEGOLD where there are buses going to port of Danao City. We only spent Php8.00 for the jeep and Php 40.00 for the bus. It took 1 and half hour to reach Danao Port and we were shocked for what we had witnessed. There were many people who were waiting outside the ticketing booth of Jomalia Shipping Lines and Consuelo. Some people had fall in line but others were trying to insert themselves ahead of the line. It was just like a stampede scenes during auditions, concerts or a free show. Wow! that's all we can say when we asked people who fall in line that they were at the Port by 4am and still were not able to have tickets and for us who arrived there by 8am maybe there would be no chance to go to Camotes that time because it was already Thursday and there would be no trip the following day for it's already GOOD FRIDAY. I forgot how my Angels helped me to have tickets for us but by 11am but we just found ourselves boarding at the Ship and  saw most of the people who arrived earlier than us, still don't have tickets. Lucky for us to have a wise guy, haha!

A friendly advise, if you are planning to go to Camotes Island during Holy Week, better to go few days before Holy Thursday and Good Friday for you to conveniently board the ship and will not stay at the port for couple of Hours and better to go there early.

The boat left at around 1:30pm  and it was a very smooth sail and there was no any rough wave but it was almost 3 hours when we reached Poro Port unlike Jomalia which will go directly to San Francisco which only took 2 hours. From Poro Port, we still rode a jeepney going to San Francisco which took for about 20-30 minutes. We stayed for a while at Arquillano's Residence - house of Jam, hmm she is my co-worker who is popular in San Francisco, Camotes, no wonder why we only told the driver once and they knew their address already, even the name of the gymnasium is Arquillano Complex and the current mayor is also Arquillano who is their immediate relative. We were accommodated for a dinner and guided to an Inn, i forgot the name but just a walking distance from the gym.

WHERE WE STAYED IN SAN FRANCISCO, CAMOTES?

We stayed in a budget Inn near the gymnasium where we only spent php600.00 good for 5 persons. It was already air-conditioned and has a own bathroom. Free bananas were also served..hehe..Since we were not able to plan our trip well, not knowing that our room were already booked ahead so we transferred to another Budget Inn which was also convenient for us to stay and we spent php900 for that which is also good for 5 persons. It was a big savings for us to stay in this Budget Inn where in fact it was a convenience slept for all of us aside from one moment that I remembered when Kim shouted very loud the moment that I stood up to get some water  while I was covered with white blanket due to very cold room temperature and she thought that it was a white lady (LOL) and when the roomboy asked us who shouted during the dawn, we have said it was Kim who was only dreaming with her idol. haha..

Anyway, for those who want to stay in beachfront hotel and resorts, you can stay at MANGODLONG PARADISE  BEACH RESORT, BANO BEACH RESORT, MY LITTLE ISLAND HOTEL or at SANTIAGO BAY AND RESORT

WHAT TO DO IN CAMOTES?

Since we arrived at Camotes Island at 4:30pm and reached San Francisco by 5pm, there's nothing much that we can do on our first day. We just had our seafood diet at Jam's Residence, had freshen up ourselves at the Inn and had our picture taking at the BAYWALK of SAN FRANCISCO it was the first baywalk in Camotes Island that was constructed in 2009.It is one of the MUST PLACE TO VISIT in the Island.

The next day, we went to MOUNT CALVARY where station of the cross are in visual form, crafted stones are used for this stations, depicting the vents before Jesus Christ was crucified on Calvary. It was really a sacrifice as we need to go uphill to reach the last station.

Then we didn't miss the chance of getting inside the CAVE OF TIMUBO, it was actually located at the entrance of Mount Calvary. There would be an entrance of Php20.00 upon getting inside the cave. This place is perfect for nature lover and adventure seeker. It has a clear, cool and  clean water inside which is perfect for those who wants to swim.

After the swimming inside the cave, we didn't let the moment to pass by without SWIMMING ON THE WHITE SAND BEACH of SANTIAGO. But before that, we have checked Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort where suppossed to have our last night stay but unfortunately it was fully booked and most of the beachfront hotels and resort were fully booked also.

We didnt leave the island without exploring the LAKE OF DANAO. It was an adventure road trip via single motorcycle. Lake Danao Park encourages local and foreign visitors to take Scenic Lake Cruise, a 30-min "sakanaw" ride that travels around the lake for a closer, better view of the surroundings, bringing it to life and taking its grandiose beauty to its highest level.

There were more fun in other municipality of Camotes like in Bukilat Cave of Poro, Buho Resort of Poro, the Heritage House of Pilar and the Busay Falls of Tudela where we planned to explore the next time that we visit the island.

I WILL BE BACK AGAIN IN THIS ISLAND BECAUSE I PHIL THE FUN IN CAMOTES...

DAVAO ADVENTURE

GETTING TO KNOW DAVAO CITY

Davao City is one of the most progressive cities in the Philippines located in southern part of Mindanao and it is the largest city in terms of Land Area. This city is known for Mt Apo, the tallest mountain in the Philippines and home of the Philippine Eagle, the country's national bird,  which is said to be the biggest eagle in the World. . This city is also known for it's abundance in Durian, the "king of fruit" and most of their delicacies are from this exotic fruit.

HOW TO GET IN THERE?

Davao City is very accessible by Air, Sea and Land. Most of the major cities in the Philippines and some Asian countries have flight from and to Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City via Philippines Airlines, Airphil Express and Cebu Pacific. Last June 13, 2012, I went to Davao City via Airphil Express from Mactan International Airport of Cebu which departed at around 1pm and arrived at Davao at around 1:50pm. If you would like to travel by Sea, the most convenient and easy way to reach Davao is through  Cagayan de Oro International Seaport which serves regular trips to and from Manila, Cebu, Tagbilaran, Dumaguete, Iloilo and Jagna Bohol. From the pier, it takes only more or less 10 minutes via taxi cabs or jeepneys going to Agora Bus Terminal in Market City. Most of the buses serve regular trips to and from any point of Mindanao and from here you can reach Davao via Buda for 6-8 hours or Via Butuan for 10-12 hours. By Land, you can  reach Davao City via Buses in Davao Bus Terminal to and from any point of Mindanao.

The NEW 7 Wonders - Puerto Princesa Underground River

GOOD NEWS TO PHILIPPINES!!

GENEVA—The Philippines’ Puerto Princesa Underground River, the Amazon rainforest, Vietnam’s Halong Bay and Argentina’s Iguazu Falls were named among the world’s new seven wonders of nature, according to organizers of a global poll.

The other three crowned the world’s natural wonders are South Korea’s Jeju Island, Indonesia’s Komodo and South Africa’s Table Mountain, said the New7Wonders foundation, citing provisional results.
Final results will be announced early 2012, said the Swiss foundation, warning however that there may yet be changes between the provisional winners and the final list.
Sites which have failed to make the cut include Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, the Dead Sea and the US Grand Canyon.
The poll organised by Swiss foundation New7Wonders has attracted great interest, mobilizing celebrities including Argentinian football star Lionel Messi calling on fans to pick his home country’s Iguazu Falls.
The results come after a long consultation process lasting from December 2007 to July 2009, when world citizens were asked to put forward sites which they deemed were natural wonders.
More than a million votes were cast to trim the list of more than 440 contenders in over 220 countries down to a shortlist of 77.

The group was then further cut to the 28 finalists by a panel of experts.
Anyone in the world was then able to vote for the final seven via telephone, text messages or Internet social network.
The Philippine government vigorously campaigned for the Palawan subterranean river in a bid to boost a sagging tourism industry.
Founded in 2001 by filmmaker Bernard Weber in Zurich, the foundation New7Wonders is based on the same principle on which the seven ancient wonders of the world were established. That list of seven wonders was attributed to Philon of Byzantium in ancient Greece.
New7Wonders said its aim is to create a global memory by garnering participation worldwide.

But even as the natural wonders poll came to a close, the New7Wonders foundation has set its eyes on a new survey — the top seven cities of the world. Participating cities will be announced on January 1, 2012.
